How accident happened, the Railway Board itself told

Railway Board members told in the press conference, 1257 passengers were sitting in reserve Coromandel Express while 1039 reserve passengers were in Yashwant Express. Coromandel Express was coming at full speed in the upline and there was no stoppage at the station. Whereas Yashwant Express coming in the downline was going from Yeshwantpur towards Howrah.

The goods train was standing in the common loop. Green signal was received by Coromandel Express. The Coromandel Express derailed and some coaches collided with the goods train. Some coaches collided with the Yesvantpur Express after which the accident took place. The reason for the accident is the derailment of Coromandel, due to which both the other trains came under the grip.

Putin wrote a message to President Murmu and PM Modi on the fatal train accident

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences in a message to Indian President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the fatal train accident in Odisha. The Russian Embassy in India wrote in its message, “Our condolences to those who lost their loved ones in this tragic accident and we wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

Had there been an anti-collision device in the train, the accident would not have happened – Mamta Banerjee

Mamta Banerjee, who reached the site of the train accident in Balasore, Odisha, said, “This is the biggest train accident ever. A similar accident happened in 1981 as well. There was no anti-collision device in this train, if it was there, this accident would have happened.” It doesn’t happen.

We will give Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the people of our state who died in this accident. We will fully cooperate with the state government and the Railways in the relief and rescue work.”

Compensation announced for the victims’ families of Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said, “Rs 5 lakh will be given to the families of each of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh each to the injured in Tamil Nadu from the Tamil Nadu government. Additional officers have been appointed to carry out the rescue and relief work.”
